LAS VEGAS– We just a first look at the Sony Xperia S– Wow, what a looker! This Android 2.3 smartphone is one of the most elegantly designed phones we’ve seen. It features a 4.3-inch screen powered by Sony’s Bravia Engine technology (the same engine powering their TVs) with an HD 1280 x 720p resolution. But really sets the Xperia S apart is a translucent light bar the circles the lower quarter of the phone. It lights up when you wake up the phone and serves as a notification light when you receive a call or message.
The Xperia S features a 1.5-GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 12MP rear camera with Sony’s Exmor- R for mobile technology and a 1.3-MP front camera. The coolest thing about the camera on the phone is that it’s ready to take a photo in 1.5 seconds from sleep mode. Both front and back cameras are capable of shooting HD video at 1080p and 720p, respectively. Though the Xperia S doesn’t have a 4G radio, it is NFC-enabled, has 32GB of internal storage, and is Playstation-certified so it will rock for playing games. It’ll launch with Android 2.3, Gingerbread, but will receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update soon after launch.
Sony has also built their Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited services into the Xperia S as part of the Sony Entertainment Network, which means you’ll be able to transfer your viewing experience between your phone, tablet, laptop, and Sony TV.
