I just felt like sharing this (rather obvious) information. To view avi (xvid) files on your SX1, you need SmartMovie player (i use 2.76). The converter that comes with SmartMovie is rather poor. So here is an alternate:
Get PocketDivxEncoder free from [DivxEncoder Website . Note that older version 0.3.50 had some serious bugs which meant that encoded files were often corrupted. You also need to install xvid series60 codec. It comes with smartmovie but does not install automatically.
I will mention what settings can/need to be used.
1. Video Quality: Set that to 1 to 4. SX1 will usually be able to play 4 (136kbps) but video will lag a bit on start.
2. Audio Quality: Set that to 1-3. I like to keep it at 2. Note that using stereo (4 or above) will seriously reduce playback quality.
3. Output Dimentions : 208x176. Note that even sx1 have 220x176 screen, about 12 pixels are used by status indicators (battery, signal etc). So usable size is 208x176
You can adjust picture brightness, contrast, saturation to your likings. Sound boost is useful but not always a good idea (distorting audio and such)
4. Now click on Advanced Options.
XVID - MUST BE ENABLED.
VHQ Very High Quality. To be honest, i dont see much difference with this enabled or disabled. It does reduce encode rate about 40%. Maybe more important with higher resolutions, but not so much here.
Framerate You can try setting a lower framerate (15,18 or 20) to for smaller filesize, but note that audio/video sync problems may occur.
Audio Normalization If there is lots of subtle (hard to listen) speech in movie, enabling this will help. Disable this for music videos.
Direct stream copy (audio/video) should never be used, obviously.
Press Encode NOW and encoding starts. You can Save Settings to save time on next encode.
NOTE: If your video does not appear fullscreen with SmartMovie, change Options->Preferred Mode. Using the option Fullscreen Zoom option will reduce performance, so disable it.
I hope this helped some people
