I've switched to XP x64 recently. It's more stable than the x86, but, a big but, you will have a hard time getting everything up and running when newly installed. Softwares for x86 will work, but some tool-boxes won't if not made for x64. Also the softwares for my N95 won't install as they don't recognize the Windows XP x64. My rig, because of that, runs a small partition with Windows XP x86 as a safety.

Have't tried the Siemens software on my current rig. I've used Mandriva Linux, but at the moment I'm only using Windows.

mandriva linux is just another linux distro.
to have full power of 64bit os, you need one 64bit processor too.

It does. And if you try install a 64-bit OS and don't have 64-bit CPU it will give you an error message, and then refuse to install.
