Your device's BT name is the same as the owner's name, right? Who wants to have that? So, here's a way to have a decent owner name, and a spiffy BT name for bluejacking, on devices with the Microsoft BT stack (generally speaking, all those with Windows Mobile 5)! First, you need a registry editor. Total Commander or Resco Explorer are enough. Then, go to this location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Settings
There should be a key called "LocalName". Change it to whatever you want and voilĂ ! Remember that, if you change your owner name, the BT name will be reset to it and you'll have to repeat this procedure.

Thanks for this valuable information DW. Hopefully, it will work with E72 too, this one, running WM6

Maybe Micro$oft has improved its yucky stack (much worse than Widcomm) and this trick isn't needed anymore on WM6...

What's every one having against Widcomm? I find it as the best of all I've tried.. :\
Usefull information, wonder if it works on Windows XP/Vista.. My Widcomm software allows me to edit it, but some friends have Bluesolei, and they can't.. :\

The software that came with my BT dongle was BlueSoleil, and that sucked When I installed Widcomm, I was happy I like the way it integrates into windows!

I've got nothing against Widcomm (well, acessing the menus could be faster...), but I compared to it because AFAIK those are the two only stacks used on Windows Mobile.
