My C45, bought in 2001, FW06 and have that game I love, BattleMail KungFu, the most recent FW's don't have. Has been a pretty nice phone even if I do complained a lot with the lack of calculator. The predecessor C35i had one, and I never understood why Siemens went a step back on this phone.
Happy, of being fixed the blocked phone code of my C35i (the shop I had it there resting almost one year never fixed it, told it was impossible) and even more happy by having the network lock gone too, thanks to the software ZeeSiemens (no, it wasn't written by SiemensPlanet's admin and friend, ZeeM), I went ahead, with the original cable, and tried to unlock my C45 with it.
D'oh, what a newbie I was at that time! obviously, if a software was written by a phone (the C, M, S35 ones) that doesn't match the one we are trying to use it with, will lead to a damaged phone.
And then, it entered a deep coma. Only blinking if pressing the power key...
It sat there in a box, sometimes taken out to open it, and use some pieces to fix phones from my friends (display and speaker), and in 2006\2007 to have the PCB metal shielding from the components ripped out to make a antenna for my E81.
Then, recently, I bought a proper serial flasher cable for the lumberg powered series (x25 to x50).
Yesterday, a light-bulb was lit on my head and I did picked up the coma force induced C45.
Placed my M50 battery in it, plugged it to the cable and ran SST.
Selected the correct port, the model in the list, and pressed "read-info".
Good stuff information about the phone appeared.
Then, only had the unlock button able to be pressed. That was what I did.
After the operation finished, I unplugged the cable, and tried to power it on.
Note that the phone had to screen and speaker, so when I saw the leds remained lit, I smiled in happiness, and went ahead to start VisSie.
VisSie recognized the phone, monitored the battery level and network.
It was alive!
I ran to the M50, disassembled it, took out the screen and speaker and installed it on my C45, even using a simcard different from the original network.
So, phone fixed and free for every network!
Spent many time playing BattleMail. I have this game on my S45 with FW21, but I like to play it more on C45 even if the screen is smaller.
Brings back memories from my younger days.
Later, I started to experience some problems with the phone. I couldn't receive or make any call, even with the signal strength on the maximum.
But if I placed my hand covering the whole phone read, mostly the internal antenna area, it would work!
"This might be any interference" was my thinking.
Then, I remembered the phone didn't had the shields.
M50 board is being pictured, the PCB's share the same layout, this image is just illustrative
Then, I went again to the M50 and took out the shields I needed, to try out if was anything I could fix myself.
Problem solved, the phone after 11 years in coma and a dizzy wake up, is now fully functional.
Now, is just time to order spares, or a new donor phone to keep my c45 and M50 functional, since at this time, M50 was the lab rat to lent his hardware bits to C45.
And the legacy continues a classic easy to use phone, simple and pretty design is back on the road.
(No, I'll not upgrade this C45 FW. I love BattleMail KungFu so much!)
