since the german closure, they are uploading things to that new site, indeed, a new server too. It is very good to know they at least are thinking in the costumers.

I've heard many positive things about FW58, but I won't install it as it doesn't have Norwegian language I need some special Norwegian letters (æ. ø and å) to write proper Norwegian in f.ex SMS messages.

Hey there, I just checked my FW version and i can see i have an old version (23 ), but i can't make out wether i should dl the EF 81 v.58 BRD-Retail or EF81 v.58 3GSwup ru. I currently have an International version with Dutch as my chosen language as i am from The Netherlands (Holland). Can you help me out?

when you type *#06# and switch one tab, scroll to the field "Mobicom ini name:"
Anyway, the BRD Retail have Netherlands, Deutsch among others.
Also, remember: The upgrade erase everything! And some upgrades to FW58 run bad. Do not worry, first, upgrade to one FW 48, and then, to FW58
When upgrading to FW 58, make sure to:
-> remove mem cards -> remove sim card. -> take out the battery for 2 to 5 minutes -> Start the updater -> place back the battery -> Turn the phone ON in the Download mode (you press # and keep it pressed while you turn the phone on. now, only the benq-siemens logo is show) -> plug the phone -> leave the lid closed -> press "start" and follow the upgrade instructions. -> after 10 minutes, it is done.

Hey... I checked the those "tabs" earlier...but I didn't make me much wiser...My Mobicon ini name is: xx-international-LG01_001_EF81.in. I couldn't match it with any available FW upgrade. I still have some questions, before taking any risk with this non Benq supported upgrade action: 1) You suggest to choose the BRD variant and to upgrade to fw 48 first..and then to fw58?! 2) Does the upgrade also erase factory installed themes? 3)With "start the updater" you mean the FW upgrade file I downloaded? Thank you for your help and backup!

well, they are from service centers, so, they are... official, but what they don't want, is us using them xD You can backup the entire brew root it you want, and load it back once you finish the upgrade

In the past Siemens posted their fw updates on their site for free. I tried to use BitPim for backing up my phone, but I couldn't get BitPim and my phone to connect. I tried every available COM port, but no result. It's not like I desperately want to keep my factory installed themes, but I'm a person who is better safe than sorry... I think I'm gonna take the chance and try to update my FW tonight.

and to everyone who ask: "how, and when?" it was done via MSN. We found some problems like: ->too many NV items initialized -> network loss -> factory mode stuck but all got solved. This is the read that will help all the future newcomers, enjoy, and learn with us! [ load the bible of this post, the file that will save your skin!]
